Netflix retail store to open in 2025

Over the past few years, Netflix has sought new niches to swell into. Earlier this year, the streaming giant opened its first restaurant in Los Angeles, and now, it sets its sights on opening its first retail store.

Following the recent closure of its long-running DVD rental service, Netflix looks to venture into pastures new. These new retail stores, named Netflix House, will offer household goods as well as food and drink products.

Of course, Netflix need a niche if they’re to prosper. Fear not; many of these products will be themed according to popular Netflix programmes and movies at a given time.

The project is still very much in its teething phase, but the streamer hopes to have plans fleshed out over the coming year. The first Netflix House store is scheduled to open in the US in 2025.

“We’ve seen how much fans love to immerse themselves in the world of our movies and TV shows, and we’ve been thinking a lot about how we take that to the next level,” Josh Simon, Netflix’s VP of consumer products, said in a new statement to Bloomberg.

Netflix has already got a head start in e-commerce with an online merchandise shop, offering a wide range of items, from Stranger Things T-shirts to quirky red envelope sleeping bags. Additionally, the streamer has previously delved into temporary pop-up retail stores.

Announcing their first restaurant in June, Netflix stated: “Now, for the first time, you can get a taste of the shows you know and love through this limited-time pop-up restaurant.”
