Netflix renews ‘Free Bert’ for Season 2 after strong debut

If you have already watched Free Bert, this news should not feel like a surprise because, come on, we all saw season two coming. The show dropped earlier this year, and people checked it out, and before you could even process those six episodes… boom, season two is officially happening. Although we have to say that Netflix took its sweet time to break the news.

In the first season, we saw Bert Kreischer being thrown into a world that was difficult for him to fit into, and that was basically the plot of the show. Bert moves his family to Beverly Hills so his daughters can attend this super elite private school, and from that point on, it’s just him trying to fit into a space that was never built for someone like him.

You have got these polished parents, even kids, and this whole image-conscious environment with Bert in the middle… doing Bert things, which obviously makes everything ten times more awkward than it needs to be.

But that is exactly the reason why it worked, and by that, we mean when was the last time you saw a protagonist messing things up all over the place and getting stuck in hilarious situations (hilarious for us, of course)? If you think about it, it takes you back to the early aughts when the characters were constantly finding themselves stuck in awkward situations.

And the fact that Bert Kreischer himself acted in the show makes it even better because who else can do comedy better than a real-life comedian? With his real-life spouse, LeeAnn Kreischer, playing his spouse in the show, the chemistry was even more organic. You can tell that these people are exactly the same with each other off-camera, too.

Coming back to the format of Free Bert, a noticeable thing here is that the makers knew what they were doing when they came up with a six-episode format. A comedy-drama series like this is best suited to short episodes, and once you get into that rhythm, it’s actually very easy to go from one episode to the next. Before you know it, you have binged the entire show in one sitting.

But Free Bert was never just about nonstop jokes. It showed the family side of Bert with his wife and daughters. dealing with this new shift in the environment with him. Some of the best scenes in the show are when the daughters are trying to fit in at school, and Bert messes up the situation even more in his attempts to help them.

And yeah, that ending… We finally saw Bert giving up trying to fit in the Beverly Hills environment and going back to being himself, which, let’s be honest, we all saw coming. However, his going back to his original self does not mean that the world around him is going to change too, and that is where season two is likely to pick things up. Watching him stuck in a world he doesn’t belong to is about to get more fun.

Netflix hasn’t given any release date yet, so yeah, we are in that waiting phase. But at least now you know it’s coming back, and if you have already watched season one, you’ve got a pretty good idea of what’s coming in season two.
