Netflix renews beloved spy drama, ‘A Man on the Inside,’ for a third season
Ted Danson is far from done playing the late-in-life detective Charles Nieuwendyk in A Man on the Inside as Netflix renews the beloved spy drama series for a third season.
That’s right! Mike Schur’s fan-favourite sleuth is all set to return with a new case in season three. And we know, you simply cannot wait!
“I’m so excited to see where Charles Nieuwendyk goes next,” Danson told Tudum, speaking of the recent renewal. “I’ve been blessed to work with Mike Schur for most of the last decade, and I’m still amazed by what he does. I’m incredibly thankful to him for creating this character and trusting me with it. The cast and crew make it very hard to call this ‘work.’ Huge thanks to Netflix for believing in the show and letting us keep this ride going.”
A Man on the Inside debuted on Netflix in November 2024 and has become one of the most fan-favourite spy shows on the streamer, thanks to its quirky, light-hearted twists. For those unaware, the first season of the series, which introduced Charles to the world, was inspired by the Oscar-nominated documentary, The Mole Agent.
When we first meet Charles, he’s a grieving widower, struggling with a lack of purpose and direction in life. After his daughter, Emily, convinces him to trade his newspaper clipping postcard activities for a more productive hobby, Charles answers a newspaper ad calling for someone over 70 who knows how to use an iPhone. And as we see, the job finds himself at the Pacific View retirement community as a private investigator investigating a jewellery theft.
The second season of A Man on the Inside raised the stakes with a juicy new case that saw Charles going undercover as the engineering professor at Wheeler College to find out who was trying to prevent a donation from problematic billionaire, Brad Vinick. While the case also sees Charles falling in love with fellow professor Mona, what can viewers possibly expect from the third season?
“What we did in season two is try to level [Charles] up: make the case bigger and more dramatic, make the stakes higher and make his detective work both better and also in some ways worse,” Schur weighed in. “All of season one is at the foundation of season two, and one and two will be at the foundation of season three.”
Although Netflix has been tight-lipped about the content coming our way in A Man on the Inside’s third season, considering the renewal, it won’t be long before we get all our answers.
