Netflix reveals release date for Sabrina Carpenter’s Christmas special

Sabrina Carpenter is set to welcome in the festive season with a Netflix holiday special titled A Nonsense Christmas.

The festive variety show will be released worldwide on December 6th and will feature several musical guests. The pop star will perform songs from her 2023 festive holiday album Fruitcake and covers of well-known Christmas favourites. In a similar style to other holiday specials created by Netflix, the show will also have surprise cameos, skits, and duets.

When asked about the special, Carpenter said, “The holidays have always been so special to me. I’m so excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”

Besides the upcoming release of her Netflix special, Carpenter has made a significant splash this year with the release of her album Short n’ Sweet, which dominated the global charts and took the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Carpenter’s holiday EP was released in November 2023 and boasted tracks including ‘A Nonsense Christmas’, ‘Buy Me Presents’, and ‘Cindy Lou Who’, which are expected to be showcased in the Netflix one-off. Based on her popularity and the streaming service’s fondness for festive specials, it’s inevitable that A Nonsense Christmas will be a huge hit for the platform when it releases.

Carpenter has had a career-defining year after the success of Short n’ Sweet, earning her a Grammy nomination for ‘Best New Artist’, ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Record of the Year’, which was a tight spot to compete for given the success of other albums such as Brat, released by Charli XCX. Carpenter sky-rocketed in popularity this year after her world tour and the subsequent release of Espresso at Coachella.

Netflix will no doubt draw in a large audience through its collaboration with Carpenter, and the tradition of working with popular artists over the festive season will continue as an annual staple of the streaming service.

Capitalising on one of the biggest stars in the music industry during the holiday period is a shrewd move for Netflix and one that’s virtually guaranteed to draw in huge viewership figures. The onslaught of Christmas content is about to explode into life, and with Carpenter reigning as a world-famous singer with an army of fans, it can’t be ruled out that A Nonsense Christmas hangs around the most-watched list right up until December 25th.
