Netflix are planning to make a sequel to ‘Troll’

Netflix are planning to make a sequel to the Norwegian action-adventure movie Troll, directed by Roar Uthaug, who had previously directed the first disaster movie to come out of the Scandinavian country, The Wave.

Troll 2 will see Uthaug team up with the actor Espen Aukan and the producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud at the Oslo-based studio Motion Blur, who previously worked on Amundsen and The 12th Man.

The first Troll movie sees a massive explosion occur in the mountains in Norway, which wakes up an ancient troll and follows a brave palaeontologist who tries to stop it from unleashing chaos and devastation.

The first movie’s cast included Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Mads Pettersen and Gard B. Eidsvold. When it first arrived on Netflix in 2022, it quickly became the most popular non-English movie on the streamer.

Uthaug said in a statement, “Making Troll was a lifelong dream come true, and the reception our Norwegian movie has received around the world has been unbelievable.”

The producers Horn and Sinkerud said that Troll will be “again spinning on a Norwegian fairy tale figure, played, directed and produced by Norwegians.” Production will begin in 2024.
