Netflix issue statement on Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight following complaints
Netflix have released a statement following the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson on November 16th with many viewers complaining about the streaming service crashing, which the company claims is due to the high number of viewers.
Many Netflix subscribers were frustrated after the streaming service’s coverage of the fight at AT&T stadium intermittently cut out. Some viewers reported that the stream kept buffering, which is rare for the current state of modern technology. Despite this, a record number of fans tuned in for the fight between professional boxer Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul, with the judges collectively agreeing that Paul had won the match.
In the wake of the conclusion, Netflix issued a statement after Paul’s victory, saying, “60 million households around the world tuned in live to watch Paul vs. Tyson! The boxing mega-event dominated social media, shattered records, and even had our buffering systems on the ropes.”
Although the fight brought in a record number of viewers, Tyson was not on top form, making for an uncomfortable viewing experience as the former champion was beaten by Paul. The sound of fans booing could be heard in the stadium, but regardless, people remained tuned in for the entire fight.
The final scores pointed to an undisputed success for Pual, nicknamed ‘Problem Child’, who improved his professional record to 11-1 after his victory over the former heavyweight champion.
Tyson hadn’t had a professional fight since 2005, with his last match taking place against Roy Jones Jr in December, 2020, as part of an exhibition match. The streaming service has not yet released a statement on Tyson’s claims that he “nearly died” a few months prior to the match, raising alarm bells about his physical health in the build-up to the fight. In June, the boxer was forced to delay the fight after an ulcer flare-up that saw the fight rescheduled from July 15th. It was pushed back to November to allow recovery time for the boxer and to continue with training.
Tyson posted a message on one of his social media pages saying, “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night No regrets to get in ring one last time. I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions.”
He continued: “Lost half my blood and 25lb in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”
