Netflix is releasing a documentary on the last ever Blockbuster video store

Netflix is set to release a documentary later this month that will focus on the last remaining Blockbuster store.

Entitled The Last Blockbuster, the documentary will focus on interviews with fans, employees and those behind the business, in what promises to be somewhat of a nostalgia-fest for those that grew up with the video giant as a constant weekend companion. Far from a kitsch love-in for the past, the project also has the pedigree of Clerks director Kevin Smith behind it.

The feature is centred around the only remaining Blockbuster in the world which was located in Bend, Oregon.

An irony-laden statement on the streaming platform’s Facebook page read, “A lot of people know that Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix early on and they passed on the opportunity.

Before continuing, “In an ironic twist of fate, our movie The Last Blockbuster is coming to Netflix one week from today. We are beyond excited for people to get to see this tribute to era of home video on the world’s largest streaming service.”

The statement finally concluded with a final tongue-in-cheek reference, saying, “Just don’t forget to rewind it when you’re done watching it and bring it back by noon on Wednesday.”

You can watch a trailer for The Last Blockbuster, which arrives on Netflix on March 15, below.
