Netflix is bringing back ‘Peaky Blinders’ with a new sequel series
No matter how many times you read this, it’s actually real: Peaky Blinders is coming back on Netflix with a sequel.
After The Immortal Man finally dropped and gave fans something after all those years, we genuinely thought that maybe this was it. Maybe this is how they wrap things up, but nope, Netflix has now confirmed that Peaky Blinders is continuing with a full sequel series.
And if you have seen The Immortal Man, you kind of get why this is happening, right? It’s because the film didn’t feel like a full stop; it felt like a setup, like it was tying things together but also opening the door for what comes next. Especially with how it handled the Shelby legacy and the world around it.
Do you know what makes this even more solid? It’s that Steven Knight is back writing it, so this is not going to be some random extension by new people. This means that it is coming from the same creator, which makes one thing clear: the tone and the storytelling will stay consistent.
And the biggest change here is that we are not just following the same characters again. Because this sequel is about a new generation of the Shelby family, the name and the power stay, but the people running things will be a whole lot different now.
What is the plot?
So here is where the main game begins, and things get interesting. The story is set in 1953, which means we are now in post-World War II Birmingham, and the city is basically rebuilding itself after it was reduced to rubble.
And this is where things get really interesting, because the rebuilding isn’t just part of the story… it is the main plot, and whoever wins control over these projects is basically taking over Birmingham. That means whoever takes the wheel will automatically be in control of money and influence, and eventually the whole system.
So this isn’t just about gang fights anymore. It is business deals and political influence, and that means stakes are way higher now… and thus will be the show. And in the middle of all this, you’ve got the new Shelbys, who are now the ones in charge. Their efforts in handling these new-world problems while also carrying the pressure of the family name are going to be something interesting.
Who is in the cast?
Now, coming to the cast and the people behind it, which is another thing making everybody curious. As we said before, Steven Knight is writing this, so that’s a big win for the fans.
As far as you are concerned about Cillian Murphy’s appearance in this sequel, for now, we know that he is involved as an executive producer, which doesn’t confirm if he will appear on screen, but it does mean the original series still has a strong connection to this new one. As for the actual cast, nothing has been announced yet, but it is going to focus on new actors playing the next generation of the Shelby family, along with new rivals.
The production is being handled by the same teams: Kudos, Garrison Drama, BBC, and Netflix, so overall, the setup is very similar to the original show’s.
When will it be released?
Another thing we don’t have yet is a release date, so yes, that part is still unclear. What we do know is that the Peaky Blinders sequel is planned as two seasons with six episodes each, which is the same format as the original.
