‘The Wrong Paris’: Netflix has a new romcom with Miranda Cosgrove
Miranda Cosgrove is coming to Netflix, and this time, in a romcom with an American-French twist.
She is starring in Netflix’s The Wrong Paris, a film that follows a young Texan who thinks she’s heading off to Paris, only to find herself on a dating show set in Paris, Texas. With a mix of mistaken destinations and a slow-burning romance, this is set to deliver the kind of feel-good chaos genre fans love.
Cosgrove stars as Dawn, a small-town girl with big-time artistic ambitions. After years of looking after her grandmother and sisters, she is finally accepted into an art school in Paris. The problem, as it afflicts all wings borne of waxy wings, is that the cost of the move crashes into her lofty goals.
Dejected at missing the once chance she could have had to take to the sky, her sister wrenches her into functioning mode by convincing her to audition for The Honeypot, a dating reality series whose new season is being filmed in Paris. Armed with a kooky plan, all Dawn has to do is get cast, collect the pay cheque, and then bow out early so she can stay in France for school.
But what’s a good romcom without constant hilarious flips in destiny and destinations? Things take an unexpected turn when Dawn discovers that she is not flying to Europe at all. Instead, the producers have pulled a bait-and-switch, and now she is stuck in Paris, Texas. Not only that, but she is also competing for the heart of Trey, a cowboy bachelor played by Pierson Fodé.
Naturally furious, Dawn becomes hell-bent on getting herself eliminated, but as the cameras roll on, her sabotage plans keep backfiring, and with every episode, her connection with Trey becomes harder to ignore.
Directed by the mind behind cosy seasonal features like Irish Wish and Falling for Christmas, Janeen Damian, the film captures both the silliness of reality TV and the sincerity of a love story. The cast is stacked too: Yvonne Orji acts as the producer who stirs the pot, Frances Fisher as Dawn’s grandmother, and Madison Pettis and Madeleine Arthur as fellow contestants who bring their own spice of drama to sprinkle the show.
Cosgrove herself has said she hopes audiences will enjoy the blend of ridiculous comedy and genuine emotion of The Wrong Paris. It’s a romcom that knows how to laugh at the reality of dating shows without losing sight of the heart underneath. Sometimes, even in the wrong place, you can stumble onto the right story.
You can stream The Wrong Paris on Netflix starting September 12th.
