Netflix greenlights ‘Peaky Blinders’ series seven with BBC

Peaky Blinders will return for a seventh series after a deal was reached between Netflix and the BBC to continue the historical crime drama, according to reports.

According to The Sun, the next instalment will take place in the 1950s, after the events of the upcoming film adaptation of the franchise The Immortal Man, which will depict the gangs of Birmingham during the Second World War.

With the first six series of the drama, which ran from 2013 until 2022, taking in the historical eras of the 1920s and 1930s, The Immortal Man was initially supposed to act as a conclusion to the franchise until showrunner Steven Knight decided he needed to further the story, as he alluded to during interviews late last year.

Filming is set to begin in September this year after a deal was greenlit between the BBC and Netflix, in which the series will be broadcast by the BBC in the UK and distributed by Netflix in the rest of the world.

The BBC and Netflix have yet to make an official announcement regarding the series.

Peaky Blinders made major stars of its leading cast, including Cillian Murphy, Stephen Graham, and Barry Keoghan, who have each gone on to conquer major Hollywood roles since the series became a huge global success. For the part of Murphy, his character of Thomas Shelby is indisputably his most famous role.

The film adaptation of The Innocent Man will be released on Netflix, and although an official release date has not yet been confirmed, Knight previously suggested that it was slated to arrive some point later in 2025.

A potential release date for the seventh series of Peaky Blinders is currently unknown.
