Netflix releases first look at David Fincher's 'The Killer'

Netflix has just released an exclusive first look at David Fincher‘s new film, The Killer, a noir thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton. The movie has been in development for over a decade, with Netflix finally acquiring the rights from Paramount.

The Killer will be Fincher’s twelfth feature, whose illustrious filmography includes Fight ClubSe7enThe Social Network and Gone Girl. Fincher has reunited with Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker to create The Killer, who has also penned Academy Award-winning films such as Sleepy Hollow and The Wolfman.

Furthermore, Fincher’s frequent cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt has returned to film the project, having previously helmed the photography of Mindhunter and Mank, winning an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for the latter.

Ceán Chaffin, Fincher’s longtime production collaborator, has produced the film alongside Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner. In November 2020, Fincher secured a four-year deal with Netflix and has been almost exclusively working with streaming service for the past five years. Some of the director’s Netflix credits include Mank, House of Cards, Mindhunter and Love Death & Robots.

The Killer is adapted from Alexis Nolent’s graphic novel of the same name, which follows a cold-hearted assassin as he experiences a psychological crisis, slowly gaining moral consciousness, despite the demands of his job.

The official description of the graphic novel describes the story as “A brutal, bloody and stylish noir story” and “a case study of a man alone, armed to the teeth and slowly losing his mind,” which gives us an insight into the direction Fincher’s film will take.

Principle photography began in November 2021 in Paris, with plans to shoot in New Orleans and the Dominican Republic. By January 2022, it was confirmed that filming would take place in St. Charles, Illinois, during March. Filming wrapped on 28th March 2022.

The Killer is set for release on November 10th 2023. Check out the exclusive clip below:
