Netflix edits glaring blunder out of 'One Piece' trailer

It’s not just rookies that make mistakes. In a type of error that most film and TV fans are fully aware of these days, Netflix has had to edit out a piece of reality from its fantastical live-action adaptation of One Piece

The latest glaring mistake in the world of television came as a smartwatch made its way into the trailer for One Piece, which is due to arrive on the streaming site on August 31st. Whilst the most famous faux pas of this kind was the Starbucks cup featured in one of the final episodes of Game of Thrones, this latest gaffe surely would have gone down as one of the most notable if it hadn’t been edited out.

It was the Twitter user, One Piece Netflix Fan, who shared an image comparison of the scene before and after the smartwatch was edited out. Reportedly, this mistake came at a significant moment when the Pirate King Gold Roger faces his fate, as seen in the trailer. A new clip has now been uploaded without the blunder.

The upcoming show is based on the hit manga series by Eiichiro Oda, which was later adapted into a popular anime in 1999. Netflix’s eight-episode version of One Piece comes from the showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda.

Iñaki Godoy stars as Monkey D. Luffy, the young adventurer who journeys from his village with his crew to find the eponymous treasure, One Piece. Other prominent cast members are Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji and Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro. Elsewhere, the likes of Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott and Langley Kirkwood feature.

A synopsis for One Piece reads: “Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, One Piece, to become King of the Pirates!”

It continues: “But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.”
