Netflix drops the new trailer for ‘Siren: Survive the Island’

Netflix has dropped the trailer for their upcoming reality survival series Siren: Survive the Island.

The South Korean reality show will run for ten episodes and will follow 24 women fighting to compete for ‘survival’ until only one team of professional soldiers, athletes, firefighters, police officers, stuntwomen, or bodyguards remains. Offering an insight into the new series, the trailer shows a gruelling show that tests the strength, endurance and mental resilience of its contestants.

Speaking to The Korea Times, the producer of the series, Lee Eun-kyung, stated: “The three keywords that I personally like about sports comics are ‘friendship, effort and victory.’ It always resonates with me to see [characters] being true to what they do, taking a leap of faith and achieving their desire…But I’ve realised that there are not many sports comics with female protagonists. So I wanted to create a strong female saga that had ‘friendship, effort, and victory’”.

The new series will be released before the long-anticipated Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality TV show adaptation of the celebrated 2021 series that took the world by storm. According to a recent statement released by Netflix, Squid Game: The Challenge will have “the largest cast and lump sum cash prize in reality TV history”.
