Netflix drops a fierce ‘Black Rabbit’ trailer
Call it crazy, but there’s nothing more charming than siblings who are anything but alike. But in the context of Black Rabbit, Jude Law would surely like to dispute the idea. Amid the streak of renewal arcs and release date announcements, Netflix just dropped the wildest trailer ever, that of the greatly anticipated Black Rabbit starring Law and Jason Bateman.
Meet the polar opposite brothers, Jake and Vince Friedken, in the Black Rabbit trailer. Despite being an overtly organised person who has it figured out, you can find Jake losing his calm invariably, thanks to Vince. When Jake lets Vince into his life after spending years apart, he opens the door ajar for chaos – immeasurable and all-consuming.
So much so that even the most sorted of the brothers cannot figure it out. Drowning in debt with chasers on their tail, Vince’s recklessness ultimately becomes a threat to the thing Jake loves the most: Black Rabbit, an upscale New York City restaurant.
Zach Baylin and Kate Susman have co-created the Netflix limited series, scheduled to be released on September 18th. But before you get lost in the chaos of this sibling relationship, let’s find out how it came into being.
In a conversation with Tudum, Baylin and Susman revealed their starting point, which was conceiving a story in a buzzing restaurant. Then came the characters and the concept of highlighting the brothers. “We both have siblings and were interested in exploring the idea that you’re one person with your sibling and someone else in the world,” Susman said. But regardless of where your life takes you, it’s hard to turn a new page on the existing dynamic.
Even the stars of the show were instantly into the messy dynamic. And for Bateman, the biggest takeaway was probably Law playing his brother. “I’m an enormous fan of his; his career, the choices he’s made, the people he’s chosen to work with both in front and behind the camera,” he said. However, before filming began, the stars needed to come to a consensus about who would play whom.
Yet, there was no locking of horns out there. They both agreed that Law should play the character Bateman often does, “the one who doesn’t make bad decisions all the time.” They found the switch intriguing, and from the trailer’s glimpses, it’s clearly understandable why. Plus, given the sneak-peek was such a banger, imagine what the real party could look like!
