Netflix announces animated series ‘DOTA: Dragon’s Blood’

Netflix has announced the new anime series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood. The series is based on Valve’s esteemed multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game, DOTA.

Deadline state that the anime series will feature eight episodes and follow Davion’s story, a Dragon Knight. Throughout his eight-episode journey, protagonist Davion will encounter a princess named Mirana and an ancient figure called Eldwurm. The series will arrive exclusively on the streaming service on March 25th.

DOTA was a collaborative effort with Valve and is produced by Ashley Edward Miller. She is best known for working on projects such as X-Men: First Class and Thor.

Miller said in a statement to Deadline: “Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favourite characters. The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.”

Animation for DOTA: Dragon’s Blood has been carried out by South Korea’s Studio Mir. The studio previously worked on popular animated series including The Legend Of Korra. Miller took to Twitter to reveal that the production process took two and a half years, and that she “couldn’t be prouder of this show, my team and my collaborators from @StudioMir2010”.
