Netflix to release ‘Depp V Heard’ documentary series in August 2023

Netflix are reporting that they have acquired a documentary called Depp V Heard, a series that was originally shown around the world earlier this year. It, of course, concerns the trial between actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

The trial was a widely publicised court case that arose after several years of back and forth between the two Hollywood icons, who’d been a former couple. The documentary series will focus on the ins and outs of the case.

It’s a three-part series that will look at the events of the trial and the consequences it had on all of those involved, as well as how the decision was made to make it a public legal battle rather than a private one.

The second and third episodes of the series will specifically examine how the online coverage of the trial affected it and how the world of social media offered their reactions throughout the case.

Depp V Heard was originally shown on Channel 4 in May earlier this year, with the three episodes being aired over the course of three days. The running time of each episode clocks in at 47 minutes.

The director and executive producer behind the documentary series is Emma Cooper, who previously worked on The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, which aired on Netflix last year.
