Netflix confirms premiere for ‘The Diplomat’ season three
Netflix has always been a break-free zone. However, this year, the streaming ghost has totally influenced its roster. Barely two weeks have passed since the Tudum revelations of Stranger Things and Wednesday on the last day of May. But the streamer has already sent fans into another tizzy with the ultimate update on The Diplomat season three. On a Netflix Tudum update dated June 12th, 2025, the streamer confirmed that The Diplomat three will be available to fans by fall 2025, with a teaser accompanying the news.
The streaming giant didn’t reveal the date or the month. However, it is expected to be released within the next two to three months, perhaps a maximum of four. Filming for the upcoming season is already complete. According to Tudum, production took place in London and New York. The Diplomat, originally released in 2023, follows Kate Wyler, the new US ambassador to the UK.
The show follows Wyler as she is tasked with mitigating and defusing global tensions while forging alliances and mastering the art of diplomacy. Meanwhile, she walks the tightrope of her troubled marriage to fellow diplomat, Hal Wyler, making the series one-of-a-kind. Last month, Netflix waved the green flag for a season four renewal of The Diplomat, way before the premiere date was unveiled.
But now with the cat out of the bag, what shall viewers expect in The Diplomat season three? To get there, here is a recap of season two.
What was The Diplomat’s story in season two?
The Diplomat season two on Netflix is full of revelations. In the instalment, Kate learns that the naval ship attack before was not an orchestration of a rival country, but an insider job from the British government. She discovers the one involved is none other than Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge’s former advisor, Margaret Roylin. However, the plot twist is that she is not alone. Grace Penn, the Vice President, also had a play. Her motivations in the attack are driven by the impetus that she doesn’t want Scotland to gain independence, or else, it would prompt a closure of the Creegan.
In the face of weighty options, Hal chooses to inform President Rayburn directly instead of the US Secretary of State. As the argument heated up between Kate and Grace, along came the news of the president’s death, and the rest is history.
What will happen in The Diplomat season three?
The Diplomat season three will pick up from where the last instalment left off, with Kate accusing Grace of weaving a web of terror. Meanwhile, it’s also revealed that Kate intends to become the next vice president. However, with the president now dead, Grace is seated on the throne. But what happens to Kate in season three?
According to Tudum, “Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected.” However, expect the development of a complex alliance between Kate and Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison. And an unsettling link with First Gentleman Todd Penn. Netflix has roped in Bradley Whitford to portray Grace’s husband, Todd, in the upcoming instalment.
