Netflix confirm new original K-drama, ‘Alone In The Woods’

Netflix has confirmed the production of a brand new original K-drama series titled Alone In The Woods. The series will join a steady stream of Korean dramas to have arrived on the streaming platform over the past two years following the unprecedented success of Squid Game and My Name, among other hit shows.

Netflix announced the new show, Alone In The Woods, alongside a reveal of its cast in an Instagram post earlier today. The mystery-thriller will be led by Kim Yun-seok of The Outlaws, the Kiss Sixth Sense star Yoon Kye-sang, Lee Jung-eun of Our Blues and Sweet Home actor Go Min-si.

Alone In The Woods will be directed by Mo Wan-il, who shot to instant fame with the popular TV series The World of the Married in 2020. The hit show set a record as the most-watched drama series on Korean cable TV channels.

Alone In The Woods follows the story of a newly appointed senior inspector who takes on a case remarkably similar to an incident she had encountered some two decades prior when she was a junior police officer.

The plot also follows two men, one who owns a motel in 2001 and another who runs a small bed and breakfast in the present day. The latter’s life enters turmoil as secrets of the past are unearthed.

Lee Jung-eun, who also played the steely juvenile court judge in Juvenile Justice, plays inspector Bo-min in the new series. At this juncture, a teaser trailer for the series is not available as it is still under production.

Detailed information about the number of episodes and date of release is yet to be announced, but we will hopefully hear more as the year unfolds.

Until we know more, check out the trailer for Netflix’s highly successful 2021 series Squid Game. The hit show is confirmed for a second series, but as director Hwang Dong-hyuk has hinted, we will likely have to wait until 2024 to find out what happens next.
