Netflix brings the ‘Persona’ video game franchise to live action

Persona has been going nearly thirty years now, and it’s finally getting the live-action Netflix adaptation. It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it?

Netflix is putting together a TV series based on Atlus’ RPG franchise, and it’ll be the first time Persona hasmade the jump to live action.

Mind, it’s still dead early. There is no cast or release date. In fact, they haven’t even said which game is getting adapted for the live-action. That’s got fans guessing, because every main Persona game has got its own story and its own characters.

Christopher Monfette is writing it, while also taking on the job of showrunner and executive producer. The best part is that he has worked on Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys and Marvel’s VisionQuest, so he is no stranger to stories that start off small before they take off.

That’s always been Persona’s thing, though. It isn’t one long story with the same hero. Every numbered game has got a fresh gang of Japanese school kids trying to get through lessons while dealing with some weird supernatural carry-on on the side.

That’s why Netflix has got loads of options. They could do Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5, or even tell a brand-new story that follows the same rules. At the minute, they are keeping their cards close to their chest.

The series first kicked off back in 1996 as a Shin Megami Tensei spin-off before turning into one of Atlus’ biggest success stories. Since then it’s built up millions of fans all over the world.

But there is plenty still to come. Persona 6 got officially confirmed in June 2026, while Persona 4 Revival’s due out in February 2027, so it’s clear the franchise isn’t slowing down any time soon.

It’ll be a while before Netflix shows its hand, but people are already talking. Whether it’s Persona 3, 4, 5 or something brand new, this one is bound to have fans keeping a close eye on every update.
