Netflix announces new ‘Stranger Things’ project amid fifth season

If you’re tired of waiting for the new season of Stranger Things, Netflix has got you covered with a documentary about the prequel stage play coming soon.

The fifth season of the beloved sci-fi show, which will be its last, is scheduled to be released this year, although a specific release date has not been confirmed yet.

Thus, a spin-off documentary, Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow, might satisfy fans’ desire for new content related to the franchise.

The documentary will give viewers exclusive access to the making of the West End play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which has been a huge success since it was first performed in 2023.

The official logline reads, “With special behind-the-scenes access, follow the cast and crew of Stranger Things: The First Shadow as they race against time to prepare the ambitious, boundary-pushing stage show for its West End debut amid mounting fan and critic anticipation.”

Set in the 1950s, the show sees younger versions of Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Bob Newby going about their lives until the arrival of Henry Creel – who we find out in series four is the birthname of antagonist Vecna – interrupts everything.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow was written by Kate Trefry, basing it on a story she wrote with Jack Thorne and the Duffer Brothers.

It has won two Laurence Olivier Awards, and is set to debut on Broadway on April 22nd, featuring an all new cast with the exception of Louis McCartney, who will be reprising his role as Henry.

Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow is directed by Jon Halperin and will be available on Netflix from April 15th onwards.
