Netflix announces new Michael Jackson docuseries: ‘The Verdict’

Can we all just admit that ever since Michael has released, the internet’s been acting like it’s 2009 again? Every app you open, there is another Michael Jackson clip doing numbers. One minute it’s the ‘Billie Jean’ performance; the next, you know, people are writing essays about it in the comments. And don’t even get us started on Twitter. Like, alright, people, calm down! But now, it’s Netflix’s turn.

But that’s the thing with Michael Jackson, though, isn’t it? No matter how much time passes, people just cannot let him go. The obsession always comes back around eventually. Every single time!

Because let’s be honest here, Michael wasn’t just “famous”. The man was basically pop culture in human form. Like proper untouchable levels. You could release ten artists today, and they still wouldn’t have the aura of Michael standing still in a sparkly jacket for thirty seconds. That’s a totally different gravy entirely.

And the tunes this man gave us? Oh, come off it. His songs aren’t even throwbacks anymore… We like to call them ‘public property’. You hear Michael everywhere, and there will always be someone who starts moonwalking. It’s guaranteed.

But obviously, his life wasn’t all sold-out tours and vibes. Far from it, actually. The media was absolutely feral over him for years. Every other week, there was some madness happening. Remember the Neverland stories or the balcony baby thing? People just needed one chance to over-analyse literally every move he made. And then obviously came the allegations and the massive court case that changed everything.

Now Netflix has decided we are all revisiting that era again with Michael Jackson: The Verdict… and that’s both intense and interesting.

So what’s The Verdict actually about?

Basically, the series focuses on Michael’s 2003 child molestation trial, which ended with him being acquitted in 2005. And if you were around back then, or even if your parents were, you already know this case was unavoidable. News channels were milking it 24*7. Reporters were parked outside the courthouse. Some of them were literally camping. The world saw some of the biggest live coverage back then.

Now let’s focus on what Netflix is trying to do here. One thing that you have to know is that Netflix never does anything conventionally. It’s always different! The Verdict will focus less on the tabloid circus and more on what actually happened inside the courtroom. Because so many of us only really remember the chaos outside of court and not the actual case itself.

The doc’s got interviews with jurors, journalists, eyewitnesses, and even the people involved on both sides of the trial. So basically, people who were genuinely there while all this was kicking off. And apparently, the whole point is to get viewers looking at the case through the courtroom experience rather than through dodgy tabloid headlines from twenty years ago.

Which… yeah. Good luck with that, because even though it’s Netflix, this one is a tough nut to crack, given there is so much information and rumours surrounding this case. But again, we trust it because it’s Netflix, and the fact that a trailer and a release date have already been announced means there is less wait time.

When is The Verdict releasing on Netflix?

Michael Jackson: The Verdict will release on Netflix on June 3rd, and the trailer is already out now. Oh, it is very dramatic! Proper documentary stuff, you see, the conventional ones we grew up watching.

So, brace yourselves. Michael Jackson is once again going to be all over your Netflix home page.
