Netflix announces details of new game show

As part of its desire to maintain pole position in the streaming wars, Netflix continues to broaden and diversify its range of content, with a new game show boasting a lucrative cash prize having been announced.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the platform has gathered together competitive contestants with the promise of untold riches being the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, with Squid Game: The Challenge recently drawing in huge viewing figures after piggybacking the smash hit TV series and offering the biggest prize in the history of reality television with its $4.57million jackpot.

The upcoming Million Dollar Secret isn’t handing over quite as much cash, but as can be inferred from the title, it’s not exactly chump change either. Actor, comedian, and voice actor extraordinaire Peter Serafinowicz will serve as the show’s host, with Netflix offering a tease of what’s in store.

Per Deadline, the streamer shared that “the million-dollar prize is won by one of 12 players right at the start of the first episode,” which presents a twist on the standard game show format by forking over the winnings from the off. However, that’s where things get interesting.

The premise then finds the other 11 contestants hunting down and eliminating the millionaire, after which the prize moves onto somebody new. Tactics and strategy will be required of course, with Netflix further explaining the rules of Million Dollar Secret to outline how it’ll be far removed from the average game show.

“When should they strike? Too soon and they become the target, too late and they may never get the money. Meanwhile, the millionaire can try and get rid of the cash if the heat becomes too much.” Describing it as “a game of strategy and alliances,” Million Dollar Secret hinges on how “predators can become prey in the blink of an eye.”

The show will be comprised of eight 45-minute episodes and hails from production companies Wheelhouse UK and Spoke Studios, both of which are familiar with the reality and/or game show format. There’s no word of a confirmed cast or potential release window as of yet, but the concept is intriguing enough that subscribers fond of watching folks battle it out for a monetary reward will no doubt find themselves drawn to Million Dollar Secret, and the always-reliable Serafinowicz should make for a solid host as he adds yet another string to his bow.
