Netflix acquires new A24 dramedy 'Beef' featuring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun

Netflix has picked up the brand new series from A24. The ‘dramedy’, titled Beef, will feature Minari star Steven Yeun and much-beloved actor-comedian Ali Wong.

Created by Lee Sung Jin, the dramedy will be a 10-episode series and follow two people who allow a road rage incident to affect their entire lives. It’s a situation we’ve likely all found ourselves in at one point or another, but Beef will kick things up a notch.

“Ali Wong, Steven Yeun, A24 and Netflix. It’s a dream team, and I’m honoured to be collaborating with them. I”m also grateful to the guy who yelled at me in traffic three years ago. I did not let it go, and now we have a show,” creator Sung Jin, who will also act as showrunner, said.

Using his company Universal Remote, Yeun, who starred in the Oscar-nominated Minari will act as executive producer alongside Wong and Sung Jin.

The Netflix statement read: “We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Lee Sung Jin and help bring this rich series to life along with the inimitable Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. Sung Jin has created a bold and at times outrageous world.

“It is an honest and powerful character study of two people who go about searching for connection in the unlikeliest of ways,” confirmed Jinny Howe, VP, Drama Development, Original Series at Netflix.

Yeun hasn’t been back to TV since his 2016 role in The Walking Dead and this series will see him reunite with A24 who garnered him a Best Actor nomination at this year’s Oscars, becoming the first Asian-American to achieve the feat.
