‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ season two ending explained

My Life with the Walter Boys is a pitch-perfect teen drama. From love triangles to love confessions, it surely knows how to draw a circle. But in the second season, the hit Netflix series doubled down on the chaos, unrequited love and just about everything that makes fans return to it.

The second season of My Life with the Walter Boys ended on a high note, ensuring fans remain on the edge of their seats. With Cole finally confessing his true feelings to Jackie and the latter reciprocating with hers, there’s also an eavesdropper to consider, Alex, who had been secretly listening to their conversation the entire time.

Given that Alex and Jackie had been in a clandestine relationship throughout the season, it’s fair to assume that the former doesn’t take it well when the latter and Cole lean in for a kiss. Subsequently, neither the kiss nor the confrontation is complete.

Before the brothers could lock horns, an ambulance siren takes the vehicle of the drama and enters Will, their elder brother. The ambulance had something to do with their dad. But none of us know just yet what that’s all about, thanks to the screeching silence ever since. However, what was the trigger of Cole and Jackie’s confession?

What made Jackie and Cole confess?

According to Melanie Halsall and Nikki Rodriguez, speaking with Tudum, “The way we see it is she’s in love with Cole, but she still loves Alex.” It’s not until Cole pulls the confession out of her that she finally gives in, both to him and herself. Meanwhile, Noah LaLonde is convinced that Cole’s realisation began when the reality hit him hard about Jackie leaving for New York and not returning in the first season.

Following their kiss in the debut season finale, they agree to be friends. But they were never really “friends” to begin with. So, after witnessing Jackie with Alex, he cannot help but ask why she’s so mellow around his brother but not him. She admits that she fears losing control when with Cole.

How did Jackie and Alex start dating in season two?

My Life with the Walter Boys was not without its twists and turns in the first season. On Will’s wedding day, Alex had too much liquid courage when he told Jackie he loved her. But then, it’s also true that she left for New York the very next day. Although he enters season two, perpetually as the “new Alex,” his disdain gradually vanishes into thin air when he starts spending more time with her.

They embroil themselves in a clandestine relationship. Rodriguez suggests that she kept things with Alex a secret because she wanted to avoid the mistakes she made last time. However, she ultimately ends up doing the same.

But why does Jackie confess to loving them both?

Once they’re reunited, Alex confesses about his feelings for Jackie, this time completely sober. While Jackie also tells him she loves him back, she does so after a sizzling driving lesson with Cole. “She does feel guilty, and as people tend to do, they double down on the relationship they’ve got,” Halsall explains.

On the other hand, Rodriguez believes that Jackie meant every word she said to Alex. “It’s such a different type of love than it is with Cole, I hope it comes across that Jackie’s not just trying to play both people,” she hoped. The creator adds that Jackie realises Alex is the guy to be with. She doesn’t really want to be with Cole because in her head, that’s a path for ruin. It would not only mess up the family dynamics but also mean betraying Alex. Although she doesn’t want to repeat her pattern of mistakes and wants to love Alex just as she loves Cole, she ultimately cannot.

What about Alex’s outlook on Dylan and Kylie?

Dylan and Kylie were the wild card romance of My Life with the Walter Boys season two. Erin and Danny’s chemistry was already brewing in the first season. So, Halsall planned to approach the second with them as a couple. But Dylan and Kylie’s romance was meant to catch viewers off guard.

It all goes back to the wood shop class, where they come to meet each other. The creator reportedly wanted to do something with their arc the first time she saw them on screen in the debut season. And in the second, their romance lives up to her foresight.

But when Kylie and Dylan exchange a kiss at the Silver Sparkle in the season finale, Alex is far from at peace with it. It’s been quite a hard season for him. However, he doesn’t know why. According to Halsall, if Alex reciprocated what Kylie had for him in the minute, she wouldn’t think twice before leaving Dylan to be with him. But Alex is stubborn; he doesn’t want to be with her.

He’s the kind of guy who she believes will “wake up when he’s 45 and think, ‘That’s the girl I should have married.’” As for Ashby Gentry’s opinion, he doesn’t exactly feel Alex sees her as a potential love interest, and he doesn’t know why. But he does feel that “it’s going to take her being with Dylan for him to realise that that’s even a possibility.
