'Murder Mystery 2' originally had a different ending

The cliffhanger at the end of ‘Murder Mystery 2‘ was not always the way the film was meant to be brought to a close. Director Jeremy Garelick recently revealed that the new Netflix comedy film actually had an alternate ending that never made it to the final cut.

Spoilers imminent: The film ends with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s characters in a helicopter with a bag of cash after rescuing their friend Nik, who had been kidnapped from his own wedding. However, suddenly the pilot jumps out of the aircraft with the cash, opening the possibility for a third film.

Discussing the film’s other potential ending, Garelick told Collider, “I mean, we love the idea of doing a cliffhanger. It was in a version of the script. Actually, now that I think of it, we were actually planning on shooting a different scene for the ending, but because of COVID, the thing that we needed for that scene didn’t get there in time.”

He added, “So we had to come up with a different idea. So I remember pitching this to Adam, this idea, and then we just kind of did a pass at the scene, and it was fun. It was a fun way to end, and it definitely makes the audience wonder what’s happening next, you know?”
