‘Raid 2’: the most watched non-English Netflix movie

The digital footprint of entertainment may differ with changes in the landscape. But a good film, regardless of language, is loved by all. On Netflix, trendsetters come and go every now and then. For the last few weeks, KO, the French-language punch-fest, was busy packing punches atop the weekly charts. However, now the mantle has been passed on to an Indian-language crime thriller drama film, Raid 2, starring Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Ritesh Deshmukh.

Raid 2, serving as a sequel to 2018’s Raid, was released on Netflix on June 26th, 2025. Currently, the Hindi-language film is ranked number one on Netflix’s global top ten non-English movies chart in the week dated June 30th to July 6th. This is the second week for the movie on the chart. And this week alone, Raid 2 has amassed a whopping 4.9million views from 11.2million hours of viewing.

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, when Raid 2 debuted on Netflix as a streaming release, it reportedly garnered a staggering 4.9million views. Previously, the crime thriller was released in the theatres on May 1st, 2025. And presently, it’s the third-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. Although the film is succeeded by yet another Hindi film on the Netflix chart, Kamaal Hassan’s Thug Life, there’s a wide gulf in viewership.

Raid 2 takes place seven years after the events of the original film and depicts the return of the Indian Revenue Service officer, Amay Patnaik. Like the first film, the sequel focuses on yet another fictional white-collar crime as Amay gets transferred for the 74th time, this time to Bhoj, Madhya Pradesh. The film is currently ranked number one in three countries, including India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

From its chart-topping digital debut to proving its mass appeal on the home ground, Raid 2 has clearly gained steam in more ways than one. With its gripping storyline, recurring hero, and top-notch star power, the film can be easily crowned a Netflix favourite at the moment. While algorithmic magic and box-office back-up may have favoured its uptick on the Netflix chart, one shouldn’t underestimate the hype of sequels.

That said, can Raid 2 hold its position in the coming weeks? The Netflix chessboard is where unpredictability reigns supreme. And with Netflix rolling out titles like a non-exhaustive resource, it’s too early to say where the non-English language film would land by the month-end.

But since the frenzy is palpable and Netflix is having its time with crime dramas that have viewers on the edge of their seats, it would be a shame if Raid 2 doesn’t survive the tidal shift. Thus, only time will tell what awaits the streaming destiny in the days to come.
