Must Watch Series

The most popular series on Netflix this week: June 2024

Every week, new titles appear on Netflix, from classic movies to original series created by the streamer. With the release of new shows like Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, Eric and Geek Girl, Netflix’s current reigning champion, Bridgerton series three, might be soon toppled off its throne.

Since it was released on May 16th, the third instalment in the Bridgerton series has proved incredibly popular. The first season made its way onto the platform back in 2020, instantly garnering a large fanbase and reinvigorating the interest surrounding period dramas. By giving the genre an accessible spin (it even uses classical reinterpretations of pop songs on the soundtrack), Bridgerton became a phenomenon.

Season three revolves around Penelope Featherington’s relationship with Colin Bridgerton, which has amassed 11,600,000 views this week. Fans seem to be taking in as much Bridgerton as they can right now, with season two sitting at number five on the top ten most-streamed shows chart this week, season three just below it at six, and the spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, at number nine.

A new entry to the chart, which has shot straight to number two, is Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult. The docuseries explores whether 7M Films, a talent management company that works with TikTok stars, is actually a cult. Since its release on May 29th, it has already been watched 8,800,000 times.

Eric, a brand new limited series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Gaby Hoffmann, has been the show on everyone’s lips, currently sitting at number three on the chart. The psychological thriller sees Cumberbatch’s character use a seven-foot puppet to try and help him find his missing son. Talking to Netflix, the actor said, “This is a story about people finding their home.”

Fans of Jurassic Park have been tuning in for another extension of the popular franchise, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, acting as a sequel to Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. It has been watched 5,100,000 times, beating a newer addition to the streamer, Geek Girl, to the post. The teen-oriented series has just been released, based on the award-winning children’s book of the same name by Holly Smale. It follows a neurodivergent teenage girl as she navigates the world of fashion modelling, relationships and friendships, and has currently been streamed over three million times.

Just behind Geek Girl is Tires, a new comedy series about the manager of a struggling auto repair shop, which has racked up just over three million views. Finally, in tenth place, we have Baby Reindeer, the shocking drama based on true events that viewers can’t seem to stop watching.
