The most popular films on Netflix this week: March 2023

Spring is undoubtedly just around the corner now, even if the persistent cold weather would have you think otherwise. Still, the first promises of warmer days are whispering through the trees. Until they do indeed finally come, we’ll have to make do by staying indoors watching some of the best films Netflix has to offer. So let’s take a look and what people have been enjoying this past week.

There is certainly one big hitter on this week’s top 10 films list at Netflix, and that is We Have a Ghost, which is currently enjoying its second week at the top of the pile with 42 million hours watched. The new supernatural comedy horror stars David Harbour and Jennifer Coolidge, amongst several other top names, and was based on Geoff Manuagh’s 2017 short story ‘Ernest’.

Way behind in second place, at least in terms of hours viewed with 14 million, is The Strays, which marks Nathaniel Martello-White’s directorial debut. The new British horror film tells of a biracial upper-class woman whose perfect life is thrown into a catastrophe when her troubled history comes to light to overshadow all she has worked for.

In third place with 10 million hours watched is The Condemned, the 2007 action movie boasting an all-star cast of Steve Austin, Vinnie Jones and Robert Mammone, amongst several others. The film tells of ten convicts who a made to fight one another to the death in a game that is being showcased to the world via television link.

The Condemned is not the only Battle Royale style movie on the list, though, as The Hunger Games also makes an appearance. The first film in the trilogy from 2012 stars Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role in a story that has a boy and a girl from each of Panem’s Districts fighting to the death in the titular competition.

Also featured this week in the top ten is the romantic comedy Your Place or Mine, starring Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon, and beloved comedy The Hangover: Part III, seeing the likes of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis get up to ever more nonsense (this time in Bangkok) and Bad Boys for Life, the third instalment in the Bad Boys franchise, bringing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back together as cop buddies once again.
