‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ debuts at number two on Netflix’s most popular chart

The clamours surrounding Monster: The Ed Gein Story are currently paying off in big numbers as the third instalment of Netflix’s acclaimed anthology series appears to get off on the right foot.

In fact, Ryan Murphy’s latest instalment has had a slightly better start than its predecessor, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The Ed Gein Story reportedly amassed 12.2million views in its first three days of availability, marking its debut at the second position on Netflix’s weekly English TV top 10 chart, following its premiere on October 3rd in the week dated September 29th to October 5th. On the contrary, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story garnered 12.3million views in its opening week last year.

The only difference is that the second instalment was released on Netflix on a Thursday, offering it an additional day to amass those figures. As a result, the third season, which premiered last Friday, seemingly has a slight upper hand, at least for now.

The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story garnered approximately 3million views per day in its debut week, while The Ed Gein Story amassed around 4.1million on average. According to Deadline, the latter’s performance closely matches that of the first season. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story raked up around 4.4million views per day in its premiere week in 2022, garnering a total of 21.9million views.

Then again, Dahmer premiered on a Wednesday, giving it two additional days to amass that viewership compared to The Ed Gein Story. The former didn’t just make waves in its premiere week. It eventually became one of the most-watched shows of all time on Netflix, currently ranking fourth on the chart. Although there were developments surrounding the brothers’ case during the time the second season dropped on Netflix, The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story still couldn’t replicate the success of its predecessor.

As for The Ed Gein Story, it still awaits a full week of viewing reports, which is likely to increase from here. However, it remains to be seen whether the third instalment has it in itself to match the success of Dahmer. Hence, it’s best to say that time is going to be the ultimate judge, and it’s still too early to pinpoint how the reception goes for this new monster in the days to come.
