‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’: the action spy movie climbing the Netflix charts
Bringing the Mission: Impossible movies on Netflix has always been a hit; never a miss. So, did you really expect the buzz not to follow Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning? We didn’t think so either.
In the week from February 26th to March 3rd, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, the action spy film starring Tom Cruise, is ranked seventh on the most popular movies chart in the US, which, by the way, is quite an achievement considering it was only added to the platform on February 25th.
While the rest of the franchise is available for streaming on Paramount+, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’s sole entry to Netflix was enough to summon a storm of viewership in the follow-up days. For subscribers who don’t have Paramount+, this is technically their first “free” opportunity to see the movie since its theatrical run, so the traffic is completely understandable.
In fact, it won’t be a surprise if viewership increases with each passing day as more viewers discover Dead Reckoning on Netflix US.
Plus, thanks to Dead Reckoning’s sequel, The Final Reckoning, bagging the win for ‘Outstanding Action Performance’ at the SAG Awards 2026, a renewed interest in the first half of the story has automatically sparked. So, technically, Netflix couldn’t have chosen a better time to license the movie for its audience.
Although The Final Reckoning was released earlier in the summer of 2025, by the looks of the Netflix frenzy, it’s also possible that fans are revisiting Dead Reckoning to recount the origin of the “Entity” storyline. Either way, the rankings make one thing crystal clear: Mission: Impossible might be over, but the world is far from done with Ethan Hunt and the IMF.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning serves as the sequel to Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and follows Ethan and his IMF team’s race against time to locate a two-part key that controls “The Entity,” a rogue AI capable of altering reality and manipulating global intelligence.
Although he retrieves the first half of the key from Ilsa Faust, it is soon stolen from him in Abu Dhabi, forcing Ethan to embark on a dangerous mission to retrieve the key, which sees him going on a high-speed chase in Rome, where he literally drives a motorcycle off a cliff onto a moving train.
While this is just the tip of the iceberg of the high-octane stunts awaiting the adrenaline-fueled storyline, the rest you can catch up on Dead Reckoning, currently streaming on Netflix.
