Miss these five Netflix movies at your own risk this October

Netflix managed to turn October into a film fest of its own. So far, it has rolled out a slew of movies that deserve a proper place in viewers’ to-do lists. In fact, a few are already on their way to lightening the festive mood.

But even among those, we have handpicked five movies that stand out from the rest. In either case, missing out on them this month would be your loss.

While Netflix has always been a cultural cornerstone of entertainment of all kinds, nothing comes to par with its original production slate of movies. A handful have gone above and beyond to break records and make Netflix history.

With two months still to go for 2025, who knows what more surprises await Netflix’s cinematic landscape? However, for now, we are going to focus on the five best movies on Netflix to stream this October, and we hope you are ready for the binge session that comes with the perfect balance of feel-good, laughter, emotion, and, of course, thrills.

Caramelo (Diego Freitas, 2025)

Whenever there’s a movie about a dog, viewers tend to skip to the end to get the answer to the most-asked question: Does the dog survive? While we won’t answer that for you in case of Caramelo, what we can guarantee instead is that there’s no way you can skip this once you hit play. The Brazilian dramedy revolves around the unexpected bond that develops between a young aspiring chef and a mischievous dog with a lot of heart and healing power.

Although the dog quite honestly forces his way into Pedro’s world, he ends up changing his life in more ways than one, wrapping it with affection and loyalty, becoming his ultimate emotional anchor during his tough times.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (Simon Stone, 2025)

A good psychological thriller always makes you question your sanity. But The Woman in Cabin 10 takes things a level above by questioning your reality. Simon Stone’s latest project for Netflix already did the unthinkable, toppling the undisputed KPop Demon Hunters from the top spot on the top ten most popular movies chart globally. If you’re planning to skip, we insist that you give it a try.

The Woman in Cabin 10 revolves around an investigative journalist who embarks on a luxury yacht’s maiden journey for a puff piece cover story, or so she thinks, until she witnesses a woman being thrown overboard in the dark of the night. The only problem is that no one really believes what she saw, and trying to prove the truth only sends her spiralling rapidly into a rabbit hole.

Good News (Byun Sung-hyun, 2025)

The South Korean slate of Netflix productions is never short of surprises. And this month, it caught us off guard yet again with a disaster black comedy film unlike any other, Good News. Directed by Byun Sung-hyun, the Netflix movie is based on the Yodo-go passenger aircraft hijack in March 1970, meaning the suspense has very real roots.

Good News revolves around the rescue mission led by a group of young, idealistic, and dedicated members who go to great lengths to devise a last-minute plan to trick the hijackers and bring down the passengers safely.

KPop Demon Hunters (Maggie Kang, 2025)

KPop Demon Hunters is not exactly an October release. It was actually released on Netflix way back in June, and has since found a home on the platform’s most popular movies chart, currently on its 18th week of stay. While we understand the pick might come as a surprise to most, the reason we couldn’t help but suggest the same for an October watch is because it’s once again coming to theatres near you for a Halloween special sing-along screening.

So, if you need a recap, now is the best time. And if you’re a first-time watcher, you couldn’t have chosen a better one. For the uninitiated, KPop Demon Hunters revolves around a K-pop group of girls, HUNTR/X, who live the life of secret demon slayers, and their enemy is a rival boy band, Saja Boys, who live double lives as demons.

The Perfect Neighbour (Geeta Gandbhir, 2025)

The true-crime documentary catalogue on Netflix is anything but stagnant. Although several new titles were added this month to summon the real chills before Halloween, nothing sends shivers like The Perfect Neighbour. Directed by Geeta Gandbhir, the Netflix docu-film tells the chilling true story of Ajike Owens’s killing in June 2023.

The Perfect Neighbour is entirely conveyed through police bodycam footage, and the filmmakers have reconstructed the events leading up to the murder and after to raise awareness and fight for justice. The documentary primarily focuses on Owens’s killing by her community neighbour over a seemingly minor dispute involving her children playing in the vacant lot next to the perpetrator’s house.
