Millie Bobby Brown returns in ‘Enola Holmes 3’ on Netflix this July

About time, yeah? Enola Holmes 3 is finally set for a July release, and Millie Bobby Brown is back in action as Enola. Can you believe that it’s already been four years? Enola Holmes 2 came out in 2022, and if you have been keeping up with this film series, you know that it has become Netflix’s most dependable series over this time.

Sure, Millie Bobby Brown being the face of Enola Holmes played a huge part, but the concept of the whole setup, with a new mystery every time, is what fascinated people. What’s always made them work is also how they’ve handled the whole Sherlock Holmes setup. Instead of totally depending on Sherlock doing his usual genius routine, it’s Enola running things on her own terms. Everyone loves how she broke rules and spoke straight to the audience while working out clues, all while having a bit of fun with it.

The first film introduced her as Sherlock’s younger sister searching for her mother, while the second gave her a proper case of her own, inspired by the 1888 Matchgirls’ Strike in London. Now that the third is all set to release, all eyes will be on what interesting case they bring in this time.

It’s safe to say that by this point, the movies have found their feet. Enola was no longer just trying to prove she belonged in the Holmes family; she was building her own detective agency and carving out her own name. So, going into the third film, it’s not enough to send her chasing another mystery. The story needs to move her forward, and that seems to be the plan.

What to expect from Enola Holmes 3

This time, Enola heads to Malta, where her personal and professional lives collide during what is her most tangled and treacherous case yet. Tewkesbury is also back in the picture, and the new chapter is expected to put their relationship under pressure, especially with wedding hints already attached to the film. So yes, there is mystery, but also a fair bit of romantic drama bubbling away too.

Most of the familiar faces are back, which is exactly what you’d want. Louis Partridge returns as Tewkesbury, Henry Cavill is back as Sherlock, and Helena Bonham Carter returns as Eudoria Holmes. Himesh Patel also joins the main action as Dr John Watson after appearing at the end of Enola Holmes 2, while Sharon Duncan-Brewster returns as Moriarty.

Do you understand what this means? It means that we’ll be watching a lot more of Sherlock in Enola Holmes 3. Also, the film is based on Nancy Springer’s The Enola Holmes Mysteries book series, with Brown also continuing as a producer.

It sounds as though Netflix is giving Enola a proper next chapter rather than another neat little case. With a new country, a returning cast, Watson more involved, Moriarty back in play, and a relationship that might just be complicated, we are all set for a new mystery. July 1 is the date, and if the first two films worked for you, this one’s well worth keeping on your radar.
