Mike Flanagan adds Tom Hiddleston to new Stephen King movie

The writer, director and producer Mike Flanagan is quickly becoming one of Netflix’s most prized assets, with his forthcoming movie already in the works following the recent success of The Fall of the House of Usher.

Continuing on the horror genre theme, Flanagan’s new movie will be all about the Stephen King short story The Life of Chuck, a story that follows the life of the titular Chuck in reverse over the course of three major events in his life. Whilst not one of King’s most well-renowned tales, it is thought to be one of his most undervalued, making it perfect for a Flanagan adaptation.

Recent announcements have seen a bevy of new actors added to the cast, including the likes of The Avengers’ Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame, Karen Gillan of Doctor Who, the Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor and the young Jacob Tremblay from Before I Wake.

The cult actor and star of Wes Craven’s 1996 film Scream, Matthew Lillard, also joins the cast alongside a list of other Flanagan regulars from previous projects that includes Annalise Basso, Matt Biedel, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Rahul Kohli, Heather Langenkamp, Carl Lumbly, Violet McGraw, Molly C. Quinn, Sauriyan Sapkota and Kate Siegel.

Flanagan’s recent series, The Fall of the House of Usher, has been thrilling fans across the world since its release, with the filmmaker clearly having the golden touch when it comes to Netflix content. He was also the creative force behind such previous successes as Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Haunting of Hill House

In our four-and-a-half-star review of the series, we stated: “Mike Flanagan’s swansong on Netflix, The Fall of the House of Usher is simply put, sublime. This is more than a bald-faced adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s best works. It is a love letter to the master of macabre, whose works reverberated with themes of love, longing, and grief. The Fall of the House of Usher is haunting, grotesque, and beautiful”.
