Melissa Barrera has been fired from the production of 'Scream VII'

Melissa Barrera, who plays Sam Carpenter in the Scream reboot franchise, has been fired from the upcoming seventh instalment in the film series.

The actor portrays the sister of Jenna Ortega’s protagonist, Tara Carpenter, playing an integral part in Scream and Scream VI. However, her role in Scream VII has now been scrapped.

The news came after Barrera posted statements about the Israel-Hamas war, with Spyglass Media deeming her comments “anti-Semetic”.

Taking to social media, Barrera wrote, “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp. Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity no water. People have learnt nothing from our histories”.

“And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING,” she added on her Instagram story. “Western media only shows the [Israeli] side. Why do they do that, I will let you deduce for yourself.”

In response, Spyglass told Variety: “Spyglass stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

There have been no updates as of yet regarding the future of Scream VII without Barrera. The movie will also be the second movie in the franchise not to feature Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott.
