Meet ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ on Netflix
Netflix has always been home to the most eccentric set of characters in popular culture, who defy convention and expectation. But with The Thursday Murder Club, the streamer plans to level up in more ways than one, bringing the most unlikely group of detectives to go happy hunting this Thursday morning.
By the time you wake up for work tomorrow, waiting in the Netflix corridor would be The Thursday Murder Club. However, don’t expect this squad of sleuths to carry a smoking pipe or a magnifying glass because the former could be disastrous, and the latter might not be easily available in a retirement home.
Yes, you guessed it right. This motley crew of detectives are about to solve a cold case of murder, not in a dimly lit office or basement, but from their retirement home.
And before you jump to theories and presumptions, you should definitely meet the ones who make up The Thursday Murder Club.

Elizabeth Best
When it comes to her past career, Elizabeth Best prefers to keep the details vague. But in terms of her characteristics, she is much more to the point – brilliant and unafraid.
As the leader of The Thursday Murder Club, she’s not exactly someone you would want to mess with. She is resourceful on another level, and loyalty is a badge of honour she never lets go – so much so that she is also keeping the early-stage diagnosis of her husband, Stephen’s dementia, to herself (via Tudum).

Ron Ritchie
Having lived a life of discipline and activism as a militant and trade union activist, Ron Ritchie, dubbed “Red Ron” by the press, is the character who never fails to stand up to wrong. He’s the funny guy of The Thursday Murder Club, who has a soft corner for sports, West Ham United Football Club being his favourite. Although a widower, he has had quite a streak of remarriage.
The character, played by Pierce Brosnan, has one real weakness: his son, Jason. Once a high-profile boxer, now a television celebrity.

Ibrahim Arif
A reputed psychiatrist of Egyptian lineage, Ibrahim is a bachelor. Sensitive, empathetic, calculative, a bit guarded and precise. In the Netflix film, he has one confidante, and that’s Ron Ritchie, characteristically polar opposites. Ben Kingsley plays Ibrahim Arif.

Joyce Meadowcroft
Joyce is the eye of The Thursday Murder Club. Portrayed by Celia Imrie, she is described as a recent widow with a past career as a nurse.
She’s a newbie in Coopers Chase, who’s genuinely warm and polite. While she’s a bit of a chatterbox, empathy is in her DNA. And as Tudum puts it, she’s “eager to please, particularly when it comes to Elizabeth.”

PC Donna de Freitas
A young London Metropolitan Police transfer, PC Donna de Freitas, now serves at Fairhaven. While she is a force to reckon with, equally brilliant and has an eye for detail, she is hugely underestimated, frustrated and jaded.
But joining forces with The Thursday Murder Club turns out to be a turning point in her stagnant career, even though it comes at the cost of bugging the boss. Naomi Ackie plays the character in the upcoming Netflix movie.

DCI Chris Hudson
It’s not like Chris is a slacker at his professional job. It’s just that the divorce has had an extreme toll on him, emotionally. Though he craves the butterflies, what he does instead is indulge in comfort food. He’s reluctant to make an effort into how he looks or carries himself. And it doesn’t exactly help when a senior group of unprofessional sleuths end up outwitting him.
But not all looks bad for Chris, especially when Donna joins the team. Daniel Mays portrays Chris Hudson in The Thursday Murder Club.

Bogdan Jankowski
Described as a character who sweats day and night, Bogdan is a kind repairman and maintenance guy, employed initially by the Coopers Chase owners, Tony Curran and Ian Ventham. While he is known for doing odd jobs around the retirement home, he’s a formidable chess opponent who’s often seen flipping the chessboard with Elizabeth’s husband, Stephen.
Hailing from Poland, his reason behind travelling so far away for work in England goes back to his ailing mother, who’s still in Krakow. Although viewers are yet to meet him in The Thursday Murder Club, slated for a release tomorrow, August 28th, this character, portrayed by Henry Lloyd-Hughes, gives off the vibe that confirms he will be the heart of the film.

Jason Ritchie
Played by the charming Tom Ellis, Jason is Ron’s celebrity son who’s also the apple of his eye. He’s a regular at Coopers Chase, who was once a well-known boxer. He had to give up his sports career due to an unfortunate injury. But there’s more to his past than meets the eye.
