Matt Groening's 'Disenchantment' will end this September

Disenchantment, the animated series helmed by The Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening, will come to an end this year with its final, fifth series of episodes.

The show initially debuted on Netflix in August 2018, with four more batches of episodes released over the years. The fantasy show, animated in Groening’s recognisable style, follows an alcoholic princess named Bean who lives in Dreamland alongside her unique cast of companions, including a demon, Luci, and an elf, Elfo.

Disenchantment‘s final ten episodes will be available to stream on Netflix on September 1st. The streamer has released a synopsis which teases these last episodes.

“It all endeth here. The misadventures of hard-hitting, hard-drinking Queen Bean (Abbi Jacobson), her feisty elf companion Elfo (Nat Faxon) and her personal demon Luci (Eric Andre) culminate in an epic battle for Dreamland in the fifth and final instalment of Matt Groening’s comedy fantasy series Disenchantment.”

To save Dreamland from Queen Dagmar’s (Sharon Horgan) wicked rule, Bean must vanquish her mother and outrun a prophecy that foretells she will kill someone she loves. The stakes are as high as ever as our heroes face Satan, a headless corpse, an evil scientist and most terrifying of all – their true destiny.”

Despite an impressive cast, which also includes names such as Richard Ayoade and Noel Fielding, Disenchantment has received rather average reviews since its release.
