‘Maternal Instinct’: Where is Taylor Parker now?
Maternal Instinct is the latest entry to Netflix’s true-crime catalogue that illuminates the terrifying dark side of reality through the story of Taylor Parker, a young woman from a small East Texas town.
Parker is known for making an impression on the people she meets. So, when she arrived in the rural town, claiming to have come from a wealthy family with oil money in the Sulphur River bottoms, people believed. Although there were certainly questions about what was stopping her from being a millionaire, surprisingly, she had an answer for every one of them.
Then, in 2019, as shown in the Netflix documentary Maternal Instinct, she met local hog trapper Wade Griffin at a local rodeo and fell head over heels for him. Just three months after they met, they even moved in together. While she had two children from her previous relationships, one of whom would visit weekly and one who was never really around, that didn’t stop her from dreaming about an extravagant life with Wade.
What followed were huge sums of expenses from cars and cattle to off-road vehicles, expensive trucks, and a $4million cash offer on a ranch in Oklahoma. Parker was most certainly a visionary, and Wade couldn’t help but appreciate the foresight. Yet, shortly after they moved in together, Taylor announced she was pregnant.
While Parker had everything to support her claims – doctor’s paperwork, confirmation, and what looked like real anticipation – something felt off about this entire ordeal, especially when Taylor made the offer on the ranch. Consequently, his mother, Connie, and his friend, Stephanie Ott, secretly began calling the clinics and labs to try to verify Taylor’s claims.
That method didn’t exactly help due to health privacy laws. However, they weren’t the only ones doubtful. Taylor’s former friends from another town, McKenzi Bright and Abby Bell, who are interviewed in Maternal Instinct, revealed Parker’s tendency to manufacture health concerns long before the pregnancy. She’d allegedly told her friends that she’d been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, cancer, a brain tumour, and had also suffered a stroke.
In fact, the reason the trio split was when Taylor grew fixated on her own pregnancy. But the biggest bombshell was dropped by her mother when Stephanie finally reached her. She recalls Taylor’s mother saying, “Taylor cannot have kids. She’s had a hysterectomy… and there’s no money at all anywhere.”
Until these findings, Taylor had missed her September 22nd due date, and then came into the scene, Reagan Simmons-Hancock, who tragically became the victim of Parker’s lies and crimes alongside the unborn baby. While we’ll leave you to find what the gruesome crime was for yourself, for those curious about where Parker is now, in 2025, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals confirmed her capital murder conviction and sentence.
Taylor Parker continues to pursue her remaining appeals and is currently the youngest woman on death row.
