Mariah Carey confirmed to perform on Netflix’s NFL Christmas gameday
Mariah Carey is as synonymous with Christmas as are twinkling lights, tinsel and Christmas trees. Given her close affinity with the holiday season, it’s hardly surprising that Netflix has decided to enlist her help to perform at the first-ever NFL Christmas Gameday.
Predictably, the Christmas game will be broadcast on December 25th. Netflix will broadcast both of the Christmas Day games. One will see the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the other will show the Baltimore Ravens versus the Houston Texans.
Netflix will not only show football games, though. It will also put on a show for all of the viewers who choose to tune in. Carey, a globally renowned artist, producer, entrepreneur, songwriter, philanthropist, and author, will deliver a blend of pop classics and Christmas cheer before the marquee matchups.
Carey will be in fighting form for her Christmas Day show as she is fresh off the back of one of her biggest Christmas tours to date. She won’t perform live but will deliver a taped performance of her holiday classic, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’. There is an apparent demand for this song, not only reflected in the fact that it remains a classic but also because it has just extended its run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It has now been number one for 15 weeks.
Many different factors contribute to the song’s success. People listen to it much more frequently around Christmas, but it also gets coverage on other channels, such as TV commercials, sales, and airplay on the radio. Every year, Its persistent success reaffirms Carey’s stance as the Queen of Christmas, making her the perfect choice to open up Netflix’s Christmas Day gameday.
Her performance will air before the Christmas Day games. The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1pm, while the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans will play at 4:30pm.
Carey isn’t the only artist performing on the day, either, as it has been confirmed that Beyoncé will be playing during the halftime show. She has experience performing at halftime shows, having performed at Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 in New Orleans. Her show is revered as one of the best halftime performances ever, as she reunited with Destiny’s Child on stage, bringing on Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
It remains unclear what Beyoncé has planned for her halftime show on Christmas Day, but given recent teasers, she’ll likely be playing songs from her new album, Cowboy Carter.
