Margot Robbie once dubbed Will Smith "a dick" during the audition for a top Netflix film

In a surprising turn of events, Margot Robbie once called out Will Smith for being late to an audition, dubbing him “a dick”. Of course, she still landed the part, and now it’s in the third spot on Netflix UK’s top ten films chart.

Robbie’s audacious audition for the film had a rollercoaster of a backstory. Robbie’s journey to the audition room was nothing short of a globe-trotting adventure. While backpacking with her brother on an island in Croatia, she received a last-minute call to audition for the 2015 film Focus. Battling exhaustion, logistical nightmares, and racing against time, Robbie, however, managed to make it to the audition on time.

The film, directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, Focus follows the story of a seasoned con artist, played by Smith, who takes an ambitious apprentice, portrayed by Robbie, under his wing. As they navigate the world of high-stakes heists and romance, trust is tested, and loyalties are questioned in this tale of deception and intrigue.

Margot Robbie spoke all about her ordeal to Entertainment Weekly, “I was backpacking for a week with my brother on an island off Croatia,” Robbie started, “I end up having the craziest 24 hours of my life. I’m soaking wet because I’d been swimming. I get back to the hostel at 6am, no sleep, turn my phone on, and I’ve got all these messages: ‘They want you to audition for Focus. Your flight leaves tonight.’ There’s only one catamaran to the mainland, and it leaves in 20 minutes, so I’m grabbing my stuff, and I race off, and I get the catamaran, I get a bus to the airport, I get to the airport and wait six hours, I fly to France and wait another six hours, I fly to New York, and by the time I get to New York they’ve lost my luggage.”

The whirlwind saga continued for Robbie, “My shoes are wet, my denim shorts are damp, I’ve got no makeup, no clothes, and I’d calculated that in the last 50-something hours I had six hours sleep in total, and I walk into the audition, and it turns out Will was running late.”

Smith was apologetic, “He comes in and says, ‘Sorry I’m late, I was coming from Queens.’” But this was not cutting it for Robbie, “And I look at Will, and I was like, ‘Yeah? Well, I just came from an island off Croatia, and I’m here on time.’”

For Robbie, being ballsy with her co-stars was familiar territory. She famously earned her role in Wolf of Wall Street by unexpectedly slapping Leonardo DiCaprio during the audition. “When they hired me for Focus, they said they liked my audition,” Robbie explained. “I was like, ‘So I got the job because I looked like shit and called Will Smith a dick?’ It worked out well. Acting 101, I guess.”
