‘Love & Death’: The true-crime drama climbing the Netflix charts
So here’s something you have probably noticed: Netflix viewers bring an old show back to the top 10 charts every now and then. A series gets released on another platform, does its thing, and then shows up on Netflix like it’s ready for round two. And thanks to Netflix viewers being a good sport, it trends again. Happens all the time, right?
But Love & Death? This one is a little surprising.
Because this isn’t your typical twisty show. It first came out in 2023 on HBO Max, and it’s way more chill in how it tells its story, and by that we mean it takes its sweet time in introducing and exploring characters and building things. And yet, here it is in 2026, climbing the Netflix charts again and getting everyone curious.
So what’s the deal?
Love & Death is a seven-episode true-crime drama created by David E. Kelley (if you know, you know). It stars Elizabeth Olsen as Candy Montgomery, with Jesse Plemons, Lily Rabe, and Patrick Fugit. The show got a lot of attention when it first came out, especially for Olsen’s performance, and now it’s finding a whole new audience on Netflix.
Now let’s talk story because that’s the most interesting part. The show takes you to 1980 Texas and introduces Candy Montgomery, who, on the surface, has it all sorted. She’s got a family, a routine, a place in her community. Everything is quite stable. But you can tell pretty quickly that she is not fully satisfied.
Just then, Allan Gore comes into the picture. He is part of the same circle, and the two of them start an affair. Initially, they try to keep it very controlled. They literally set rules and try to keep emotions out of it, how it usually is. In fact, treat it almost like an agreement.
Yeah… that doesn’t last. Things start getting complicated, and feelings do get involved. Allan’s wife, Betty, starts noticing that something isn’t right, and from that point on, you can feel things going somewhere serious.
And then it actually happens. Betty Gore is found murdered, and Candy becomes the centre of everything. From here, the show moves into the investigation and the trial, and that is where the real drama begins because Candy doesn’t deny what happened; she says it was self-defence.
So now you are not just watching what happened… You are trying to figure out why it did.
A quick little detail that makes it even more interesting is that this story is based on a real case and comes from the book Evidence of Love, which means a lot of what you are watching actually happened. That just adds a whole extra layer when you are watching it play out.
Also, if the story sounds familiar, that is because it’s been adapted before. Another series called Candy covered the same case, which just shows how wild this whole story is.
And then there’s Elizabeth Olsen, who can be the sole reason you watch it because she is brilliant in this. So if Love & Death has been showing up on your Netflix and you’ve been ignoring it… Maybe don’t. It’s top-tier.
