Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson are ready to battle in ‘The Abandons’ trailer

Not so long ago, Netflix broke the ice about a Western thriller, The Abandons, that promised to transport viewers back to the Washington Territory in 1894 this December.

Starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, The Abandons on Netflix tells the story of the matriarchs of two increasingly distinct and diverse families. The Van Nesses are a dynasty marked by prosperity, wealth, and privilege, led by Anderson’s Constance.

Meanwhile, the Abandons are described as a “found family” made of orphans and outcasts, fiercely shielded by Headey’s Fiona Nolan. Despite being poles apart from one another, these families find their destinies connected over two offences, a devastating secret, an ill-fated love, and a piece of estate over a silver rode. As a result, the clash is inevitable, but it comes from a place where justice is unaffordable.

While the verbal sneak peeks from Netflix had already fans waiting with bated breath, on November 5th, the platform finally dropped the highly anticipated trailer, offering an official glimpse into the feuding matriarchs, portrayed by Headey and Anderson.

To keep pace with the rapid augmentation of a Washington Territory Settlement, Constance, a widow who has leveraged her business acumen to expand the mining fortune her late husband left to her, eyes Jasper Hollow, a lush ranch, Fiona and her adopted children, Elias Teller, Dahlia Teller, Albert Mason, and Lilla Belle, call home. This found family, known as the Abandons, makes it clear that their land is not for sale.

“My family are five abandoned souls, now kin. God gave us this home, and only God can take it away,” Fiona tells Constance in the trailer. But Constance is only answerable to herself, and her will is the only one she follows, sparking an imminent battle between the two. However, their fight for the Frontier doesn’t just concern the determined mothers.

Their fight and resistance to secure, expand, and defend their legacies result in endangered lives, making way for newer alliances. Amid all that chaos, Elias ends up in a star-crossed romance with Constance’s daughter Trisha, igniting and intensifying the flames of the tension already burning their homes.

“This flirtation ends badly for everyone,” Trisha’s brother Garret warns, as is seen in the trailer. Despite the warning, the continuation of this relationship unravels into something far more serious, with the fallout of this forbidden bond becoming a threat in ways one cannot think of. For the uninitiated, The Abandons is scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 4th. So, saddle up while there’s time!
