Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki join forces for a holiday rom-com on Netflix

The festive season calls for holiday romance, and Netflix just roped in two star-studded names, Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki, for the Yuletide calling.

Meester, best known for her work in Gossip Girl, has officially teamed up with Padalecki, whom you might recall from Supernatural, to bring the holiday season sparks with a forthcoming romantic comedy on the platform.

The Netflix rom-com will tell the tale of a no-nonsense bodyguard who’s recruited to assist a charismatic action star during the holidays. But don’t go on the matter-of-fact description, as sparks do fly and secrets unfold, complicating Christmas with the designated holiday season drama and chaos.

The upcoming movie is based on Katherine Center’s 2022 novel, The Bodyguard. However, the adaptation will be titled something, which remains untitled at the moment. The director helming the rom-com for Netflix is Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, known for her works in Purple Hearts and Ginny & Georgia. Meanwhile, the script will be co-written by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith.

In addition to Meester and Padalecki, the romantic comedy also stars Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes in his acting debut, Noah Lalonde, and Toby Sandeman.

Speaking of her upcoming Netflix venture, Allen told Tudum, “I began paying close attention to BookTok culture around the success of my last Netflix film, Purple Hearts. The overwhelming enthusiasm on social media and with readers for Katherine Center’s novel was a major factor in my decision to come on board as director.”

“It’s been amazing to work closely with Katherine so far and to see her so excited about moving her witty story about a no-nonsense bodyguard [for] an A-list actor into the holiday season. It makes the most gorgeous backdrop for the sparks that fly between them to be even brighter,” she continued.

As of now, additional details remain shrouded in mystery about the rom-com, which means there’s no word on the release date either.

But the good news is that you can participate adequately in the venture, as fans can help find the title of the rom-com. Meester, Padalecki, and Center are seeking help from readers of the bestselling novel to choose a new title for the project. So, in case you have a name in mind, head to their Instagram handles to know more.
