Lana Condor reunites with Anna Cathcart in ‘XO, Kitty’ Season 3
Lana Condor showing up in XO, Kitty season three was definitely not on many of our watchlists, and yet here we are. Be serious for a second because isn’t the Covey sisters being together again sending long-time fans back to the To All the Boys days?
No need to remind anyone why this connection is making perfect sense, because this is how everything began in the first place. Lara Jean wrote those secret love letters, thinking nobody would ever read them, and Kitty found them. She then mailed them, and before you know it, an invisible teen’s school life turned into one of the most talked-about rom-com stories of that year.
Let’s travel back to 2018 for a minute. The first movie of the trilogy comes out, and Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky are all over the internet. The fake dating plot is what invited people to watch, but they stayed for the love letters and the grand romantic gestures. But the funny part is that Kitty was always the one creating problems in the background without even trying, which makes it very fitting that years later, Netflix decided to give her a storyline of her own.
And that series is XO, Kitty, where the younger Covey sister decides she wants a big romantic story, too. So what does Kitty do? She applies to the Korean Independent School of Seoul, called KISS, and flies across the world because her long-distance boyfriend Dae studies there. Very dramatic decision, but also very on brand for Kitty.
Coming to the plot, season one of XO, Kitty begins with Kitty arriving in Seoul, thinking this whole romantic reunion with Dae is going to be perfect, and then realising almost immediately that the situation is much more complicated than expected. Dae already appears to have a girlfriend, which turns into a whole situation connected to family pressure and money problems. Shocked Kitty feels betrayed and finds herself in the middle of understanding friendships and relationships while dealing with her own feelings.
At the same time, the show starts exploring Kitty’s connection to her late mother, which becomes a huge part of the story. Being in Seoul helps her learn things about her mother’s teenage life that no one talked about before. This became a major segue in Kitty’s discovery of herself. That part of the show is actually very emotional, which fans did not expect at first.
Then we have season two, taking everything a step further because Kitty begins questioning her feelings in a much larger sense. Her friendships grow stronger, and another character slowly becomes very important to the story. Min Ho. Viewers had already noticed that tension was building earlier.
So now, as season three arrives, we’ll witness Kitty entering her senior year at KISS, which already sounds stressful because graduation decisions are coming closer and her romantic situation still looks very confusing. And this is exactly the moment where a familiar face returns to the story.
Lana Condor coming back as Lara Jean Covey means Kitty finally has someone to talk to who actually understands her. Lara Jean already survived her own dramatic teenage romance, which makes her the perfect person to give advice when Kitty starts questioning what she really wants.
And for fans who followed the Covey sisters from the very beginning, watching Lara Jean and Kitty share scenes again is just… iconic. The younger sister who once mailed secret letters is now dealing with her own complicated love story, and the older sister who lived through her own rom-com experience is the one helping her figure things out. Low-key, a perfect full-circle moment for this universe.
XO, Kitty season three is coming to Netflix on April 2nd, and we’ll finally get to see a grown-up Kitty with Lara Jean. We are excited, are you?
