‘KPop Demon Hunters’ nabs three nominations at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards

On the heels of snagging historic Grammy nominations this year, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans’s KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix is once again busy making room in its trophy shelf, having earned not one or two, but three whopping Golden Globe nominations.

The movie’s global domination began with its debut on Netflix earlier this year, in June, but even though 2025 is about to end in a few days, the momentum is far from lost.

The animated musical comedy has recently nabbed three nominations at the 83rd annual Golden Globes, including ‘Best Animated Motion Picture,’ ‘Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement,’ and ‘Best Original Song from a Motion Picture’ for its super hit track, ‘Golden.’ The music is by Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam (IDO), Jeong Hoon Seo (24), and Park Hong Joon, and the lyrics are by EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick.

“We are beyond thrilled and incredibly humbled by the recognition of KPop Demon Hunters by the Golden Globes! On behalf of the entire cast and our tireless crew, this moment feels surreal, and we couldn’t be more grateful to the members of the Golden Globes, Netflix, Sony Pictures Animation, Sony Picture Imageworks, and everyone who supported our vision over the past seven years,” writers, directors Kang and Appelhans, and producer Michelle Wong told Netflix.

“The global impact of this film is something we are still getting used to, and we are so thankful to the fans who fell in love with Rumi, Mira, Zoey, the Saja Boys, and, of course, Derpy Tiger and Sussie, who helped deliver our film’s recognition in both the ‘Best Motion Picture and Animated and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement’ categories. Thank you, Hunters!”

The songwriting team of ‘Golden’ chimed in to express their gratitude as well, thanking the Golden Globes for the opportunity and honour. “We are so thankful to be part of this team, led by our visionary directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, producer Michelle Wong, and executive producer Ian Eisendrath. This collaboration, which spanned from Seoul to New York, would not have been possible without them or without the powerful voices of REI AMI and AUDREY NUNA.”

While it remains to be seen whether KPop Demon Hunters actually brings the Golden Globes home, it has, indeed, had quite a promising start to the award season, having recently won a New York Film Critics Circle award for ‘Best Animated Feature’ on December 2nd.

In addition to this, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack has also earned five Grammy nominations, including ‘Song of the Year,’ ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance,’ ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media,’ ‘Best Remixed Recording for ‘Golden’,’ and ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.’

But to find out what awaits its Golden fate, don’t forget to tune into the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on January 11th, 2026.
