‘KPop Demon Hunters’ bags a ‘Golden’ Grammy at the biggest night for music
KPop Demon Hunters just made room on its trophy shelf for Netflix with an award season recognition of the highest order at the biggest night for music, the 68th Grammy Awards.
Netflix’s most-watched film of all time, KPop Demon Hunters, now officially has a Grammy Award in its bag. At the recently held Grammy ceremony on February 1st, the animated musical fantasy movie took home ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’ with its biggest hit, ‘Golden.’
The movie’s soundtrack has over 10billion global streams to date, and it is also the first soundtrack to have four simultaneous top ten tracks on the Billboard Hot 100. While the animated K-pop group of girls, HUNTR/X, already wooed fans with their soulful voices, the Grammy Award now spotlights the real artists behind the vocals.
EJAE co-wrote ‘Golden’ with Mark Sonnenblick, and she’s also the singing voice behind Rumi. Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami are the respective singing voices behind Mira and Rumi. In a conversation with Tudum, executive music producer Ian Eisendrath spoke of ‘Golden,’ saying, “In a traditional film musical structure, this is the ‘I want’ song. Suddenly, the song goes from being this inspirational pop to totally sotto voce… a little bit darker.”
“She’s just looking at herself and realising how completely isolated she is. She’s frightened, but then she girds herself back up… Where ‘Golden’ is the ‘I want’ song for all three girls, this bridge is a quick opportunity to check in on what Rumi wants, which is to seal the Honmoon, so the scars go away and all the demon in her is gone,” Eisendrath explains.
Not so long ago, ‘Golden’ won ‘Best Song’ awards at both the 2026 Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards. In addition to that, KPop Demon Hunters also bagged the ‘Best Animated Feature’ at the Critics’ Choice Award alongside ‘Best Motion Picture – Animated’ at the Golden Globe Award.
The next big thing for KPop Demon Hunters this award season is the 98th Academy Awards, where the film has earned two nominations for ‘Best Animated Feature’ and ‘Best Original Song’ for ‘Golden.’
The Oscars ceremony is set to be held on March 15th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with Conan O’Brien serving as the host for the second consecutive year. While KPop Demon Hunters undeniably has a big day ahead next month, where it’s expected to continue the streak of wins, 2025 Netflix entries like Frankenstein and Train Dreams, among others, also keep the competition tight.
But if you want to enter the HUNTR/X fan club just in time for the Oscars, this is the time to tune into KPop Demon Hunters, currently streaming on Netflix.
