‘KPop Demon Hunters’ 2 is officially coming to Netflix but might cost your patience

Rise and shine, army of demon hunters, because it is finally happening. KPop Demon Hunters 2 is officially coming to Netflix, and let us not pretend to be calm about it because it is huge.

And although we all knew after the end of the movie, followed by its huge success, that there was no way we wouldn’t get a sequel. We were all just waiting for Netflix to give the green light to the project so that we could relax. And the platform with Sony just confirmed it. Our girls are coming back.

Now, before we start collectively screaming, a quick reality check: it is coming in 2029. Yes, two-zero-two-nine. Yes, we know. That’s basically three K-dramas and one entire personality change away. But listen, if animated perfection takes time, we will have to wait, people. Nobody wants a rushed, half-baked cake which looks perfect from the outside but is still undercooked from the inside.

So let’s just all sit here like the loyal fans we are, who memorised every lyric of Soda Pop and still haven’t emotionally recovered from that final battle sequence.

For anyone who somehow missed the phenomenon (highly doubt that), KPop Demon Hunters is about a girl group who use their music to fight literal demons. Not metaphorical ones. Actual, glowing, rage-monster demons that explode in glitter when defeated. It’s the most gorgeously chaotic concept ever. The first movie had everything from bangers on the Billboard chart to the outfits every girl wants to don.

And it wasn’t just fans losing their minds. The film basically broke Netflix. It became their most-watched movie ever, then went to theatres for sing-along screenings because, apparently, watching it at home wasn’t dramatic enough. People showed up in coordinated outfits, lightsticks in hand, yelling lyrics like they were at an actual concert. That’s the kind of cultural impact we are dealing with here.

The sequel is being directed again by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, and apparently, they have been planning it for ages. Kang even said there is so much backstory they couldn’t fit into the first one, which means the second movie might actually answer the questions that have haunted us (the writers) since 2021. Like, what really happened to Yuna’s sister? Why did the seal break in the first place? And is it too much to hope for a full-length comeback album from Huntr/x?

Yes, the wait will be painful. We will probably graduate, change jobs, move cities, and maybe even forget our Netflix password by then. But somewhere we all just know the moment that first teaser drops, it’s over. We’ll be back here, crying in capital letters.

Until then, let’s choose to believe the patience will be worth it. We have waited for comebacks before. We have survived disbandments. We can survive four years if it means our demon-slaying idols return brighter and even more unhinged than before. So mark your calendars for 2029 because when Huntr/x comes back, the world’s going to need more earplugs.
