Kevin Williamson’s Netflix drama ‘The Waterfront’ announces new cast members

Kevin Williamson’s family drama series The Waterfront is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in the near future. Inspired by true events, it follows a dynamic family as they attempt to regain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire and end up driving themselves to dangerous means in the process.

The series, commissioned for eight episodes, is currently filming with previously announced cast members Holt McCallany and Maria Bello, with nine more being revealed for additional supporting roles. Williamson, previously known for his work on The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Following, will be writing and executive producing the show alongside Ben Fast for Outerbanks Entertainment.

Alongside McCallany and Bello, additional cast members including Melissa Benoist from Supergirl, Jake Weary from Oh, Canada, Rafael L. Silva from 9-1-1: Lone Star, Humberly González from Ginny & Georgia, Danielle Campbell from The Originals, and Brady Hepner from The Blackphone will appear as series regulars.

Additionally, Michael Gaston from Daredevil: Born Again, Gerardo Celasco from The Devil In Ohio, and Zach Roerig from The Vampire Diaries will appear as guest stars.

Williamson has become one of the most popular screenwriters of the last 25 years, mainly for his glossy, contemporary take on the drama, horror, and supernatural genres. Last year, the writer reflected on reaching the 25-year milestone for the premiere of Dawson’s Creek, which arrived during a unique time in his career when he had just sold Scream and suddenly felt the pull in various directions.

“I stumbled a little bit, and it took some time to get my footing and figure out how to do this,” Williamson told Variety. Williamson left the show after the second season but returned for the finale, which jumped five years into the future. “Dawson’s Creek was the show I grew up on,” he added, “and what was so beautiful about it was that it was my childhood. It’s so autobiographical in so many ways.”

It’s unclear what tone and atmosphere he will channel for The Waterfront, but considering his usual foray into shiny, lustrous aesthetics and gritty, realistic thematic tropes, it’s likely that it will captivate audiences as much, if not more, than his previous efforts.

A release date for The Waterfront has yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to land on Netflix in 2025.
