Justin Roiland says new season of 'Rick and Morty' will be "f***ing amazing"

The sixth season of Rick and Morty is just a month away. The series has been one of the most popular animated shows on Netflix for five seasons now, with each new instalment offering a storyline wackier than the last.

That being said, some fans felt that season five was lacking in the magic that made the original episodes so brilliant. Well, according to show creator Justin Roiland, the next season will take Rick and Morty back to its roots.

Speaking with IGN at the annual San Diego Comic-Con, Roiland opened up about the forthcoming sixth season of the popular animated series. The show co-creator noted that Rick and Morty fans will be pleased with the storyline running through the upcoming season, and confessed that season five had not featured his best work. This was perhaps partly due to the passing of his longtime friend, line producer J. Michael Mendel.

Although some fans were disappointed with season five, they’ve not had to endure the usual lengthy hiatus between series’. In fact, the gap between the finale of season five and the beginning of the premiere of season six will be the shortest yet, clocking in at 364 days.

Discussing the sixth season, Roiland said: “I will say that it’s a bit more canonical. It really rewards fans of the show that have been watching up to this point… So it’s like, I think we’re kind of finally back into the rhythm of Rick and Morty, and I think Season 6 is… I didn’t particularly think Season 5 was bad, but Season 6 is f***ing amazing. It really is a f***ing quality season.”

So, it looks like all you Rick and Morty fans can rest easy. Season six looks set to feature some of the best material we’ve seen so far. The sixth season airs on September 4th, 2022. We can hardly wait.
