Judd Apatow announces Netflix documentary on Norm Macdonald

Pineapple Express director Judd Apatow has revealed that he’s currently making a documentary on Norm Macdonald for Netflix.

Taking to Instagram, Apatow shared: “We need your photos and videos of Norm Macdonald for a documentary we are creating for Netflix. So if you happen to have anything you think might be helpful please e mail us at [email protected].”

Apatow continued: “If you just know about any interviews or interesting videos you think we may not have heard about or be able to find ourselves— that would also be very helpful. Or just tell us your favorite Norm moments. The link is in the bio link tree. Thank you!!!”

Macdonald died in 2021, aged 61, from complications related to his acute leukaemia. The comedian first gained prominence in the 1990s when he joined Saturday Night Live and quickly asserted himself as one of the most popular cast members with viewers.

After being dismissed from Saturday Night Live in 1998, Macdonald claimed his departure was due to jokes he made at the expense of OJ Simpson, which only heightened his notoriety. He returned to host the show in 1999, and during his opening monologue, Macdonald famously claimed that “the show has gotten really bad” since he left.

In his later years, Macdonald hosted the hit online series Norm Macdonald Live and also previously starred on The Norm Show on ABC.

Following his sad passing, the comedy world paid homage to Macdonald. At the time, Apatow shared on social media, “No one was funnier than Norm Macdonald. Every time he was on television he was the funniest person on television. A massive loss.”

Macdonald’s final comedy special was released on Netflix in 2022.
