Jeremy Allen White to star in André Aciman’s ‘Enigma Variations’ for Netflix

Netflix may be making a limited series which is an adaptation of André Aciman’s novel, Enigma Variations. Jeremy Allen White has been confirmed to star in and act as the executive producer on the series if it goes ahead.

The project is currently only in its development phase. If it is to go ahead, as planned, this would be Aciman’s second novel to be adapted for the screen. His first was Call Me By Your Name, which was turned into a movie starring Timothée Chalamet, which landed him an Academy Award nomination for his performance.

Per Variety, Aciman will act as executive producer for Enigma Variations alongside White. Amanda Kate Shuman, who will serve as executive producer, showrunner, and writer, and Oliver Hermanus, who will be the executive producer and director, are also attached to the feature.

The plot of the book centres around the main character, Paul. “Enigma Variations charts the life of a man named Paul, whose loves remain as consuming and as covetous throughout his adulthood as they were in his adolescence,” reads the description of the novel.

It continues: “Paul’s attachments are ungraspable, transient, and forever underwritten by raw desire. Ahead of every step Paul takes, his hopes, denials, fears, and regrets are always ready to lay their traps. Yet the dream of love lingers.”

Netflix has yet to officially comment on whether it will proceed with the adaptation, but if it does, it will add another project to that which White has in the works. He is currently filming season four of The Bear, as well as the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere.

Springsteen has commented on the decision for White to play him in the biopic, saying he believes White to be a “terrific actor.” He said, “I only had to see him on The Bear, and I knew he was the right guy because he had that interior life, but he also had a little swagger.”
